User Guide

Everything you need to know to get the most out of ChoreCraft.

Getting started

Register with your email address and choose a display name. You are automatically placed on the free Neighbour tier — no credit card required. Once logged in you'll land on the Dashboard showing your task quota and recent activity.

Communities

Communities are the heart of ChoreCraft. Each community represents a real-world group — a building, a street, a neighbourhood association.

Joining a community

Open the Communities page, browse public communities, and click Join. Free and Helper subscribers can belong to one community at a time. Champion subscribers can join multiple communities simultaneously. Admins see all communities including private ones.

Creating a community

Click New community, give it a name and optional description, and choose whether it is public or private. You automatically become its admin member.

Tasks

A task is any request for help — a ride to the airport, a grocery run, assembling furniture, fixing a leaky tap.

Creating a task

Go to Tasks → New task. Fill in title, description, priority (Low / Medium / High / Urgent), point value, due date, community, and one or more tags. Each creation counts as one task action against your monthly quota.

Picking up a task

Browse open tasks on the board or list view. Click a task to open the detail drawer, then click Pick up to submit a private offer. Picking up also consumes one task action.

Closing a task

After the work is done, both the poster and the volunteer must click Confirm completion. The task moves to Completed only when both parties confirm. If work was unsatisfactory, either party can click Mark as failed — the task enters a Failed state and can be reopened for new offers.

Offers & private chat

When you submit an offer, only the task poster sees it. Other volunteers cannot see your offer or your message. Once the poster accepts your offer, a private message thread opens between the two of you. All other pending offers are silently declined. Use the thread to coordinate details, ask questions, and confirm the final arrangement.

Subscription tiers

Feature access is governed by subscription tier — not by a fixed role. Any user can both post tasks and pick them up.

Feature Free Helper Champion
Monthly task actions 5 20
Communities 1 1 Multiple
Post & pick up tasks
Private offer chat

Admin features

Admin is a platform-level flag (is_admin = true), not a purchasable subscription. Admins have full CRUD access to all communities (including private), all users (including personal data), and all community tags. Admin accounts are provisioned manually by the platform operator — there is no self-service admin registration.

FAQ

Can I switch tiers at any time?
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.
What exactly counts as a task action?
Creating a task counts as one action. Picking up (offering on) a task counts as one action. Commenting, confirming, or reviewing does not count.
What happens when I hit my monthly limit?
You'll see a quota-exceeded warning and be blocked from creating or picking up tasks until the start of the next calendar month — or until you upgrade.
Can I belong to more than one community?
Champion subscribers can join multiple communities. Free and Helper subscribers are limited to one community at a time.
Can I leave a community?
Yes, from the Communities page → Leave. Community founders (admin role within the community) need to transfer ownership first.
Are my private offer messages visible to platform admins?
Private offer threads between posters and volunteers are not exposed to platform admins. Admin-tagged moderation comments on tasks are visible to admins.
What if the volunteer did not complete the task satisfactorily?
Either the poster or the volunteer can click Mark as failed. The task enters Failed state. The poster can then reopen it to receive new offers from other volunteers.
